Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan

Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan, a Lodhi, was born in 1863 and hailed from Topi in present-day Swabi District. He served the British Raj for decades as a civil servant and received the title of Khan Bahadur for his services. However, he is best known for assisting George Roos-Keppel in establishing Islamia College Peshawar.

In his book, Muhammad Anwar Khan writes, "Roos-Keppel always thought that the Frontier was north-westerly and not southeasterly in its outlook and that the Pathan could only be tamed to civility with greater watch. The foundation of the Islamia collegiate school and college, in concert with Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum, was one of those taming efforts." [The Role of N.W.F.P. in the Freedom Struggle, p. 43]

  1. Could I know the source behind his participation in fighting the Mohmand rebels? I knew he wasn't the freedom fighter type but this is shocking.

  2. "In 1913, Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan chose Haji Sahib of Turangzai to inaugurate the foundation laying ceremony of the Darul Uloom Islamia in Peshawar, present day Islamia College." The two were apparently opposite sides in the 1897 Mohmand Campaign
