Afghan monuments in Bengal

Information and pictures about some of the surviving Afghan monuments in Bengal region.


Kusumba Mosque

Kusumba Mosque is one of the surviving Afghan monuments in Bengal (Naogaon District, Bangladesh). It was built in 1558 during the period of Afghan rule under one of the last Sur rulers Ghiyath al-Din Bahadur Shah by his official Sulayman.

Kherua Mosque 

The Kherua Mosque was built in the year 1582 A.D an Afghan Murad Khan Qaqshal, son of Jauhar Ali Khan Qaqshal at Sherpur in Bogra. The Qaqshal was an Afghan clan that, along with other Afghan groups followed Masum Khan Kabuli, who declared himself as “Sultan” and sought to oust the Mughals from Bengal.

Atia mosque in Tangail district of Bangladesh, built by an Afghan, Sayyid Khan Panni, in 1609 A.D. He was a mansabdar (ranked officer) of Mughal Emperor Jehangir
