The true Afghanistan

"Afghanistan" in medieval and early modern Persian sources was used in similar fashion to "Turkestan", it was a geographical term and referred to the Pakhtunkhwa/Pashtun-belt. 'Western Afghanistan' of those times was the present-day eastern Afghanistan.


Raverty writes : "The limits of the true Afghanistan were prescribed by the mountains bounding the Kurma'h valley and the territory of Kabul on the north, the Koh-i-Surkh on the south, the territories of Ghaznin and Kandahar on the west, and the Sulimani mountains or Koh-i-Siyah on the east." [1]
