Original dialect of Pashto

The Soft southern variant is original dialect of Pashto. According to Britannica : the southern dialect preserves the ancient /sh/ and /zh/ sounds. George Morgenstine , renowned linguist of Indo-Iranian languages, in his article 'Afghan' published in Encyclopaedia of Islam, regards Soft dialect of Pashto as the classical variant , and refers to Pakhtun, as the North-Eastern way of speaking .According to him Kh is later dialectal form. Professor Bailey, also consider 'hard' pronunciation , Pakhtun, comparatively new and dialectal.

Pashto is descended from Avestan (an Eastern Iranian Language)......... Avestan word for camel is Ushtra ( uštra, š= sh sound)......from it is descended the word "Ush" of the original dialect of Pashto. For tear, its "asruka" in Avestan from which "Ushka" of Pashto is derived .For hair it is "vāstra" in Avestan from which is derived "Veshta or Weshta" of Pashto. (Refer to Etymological dictionary of Pashto by George Morgenstine)
